    bought this outdoor umbrella stand to replace my flimsy metal one that would tip over when the wind blew. I filled the bottom of the stand with fine sand. The key to getting the sand into the opening is the funnel, no rocks in the sand, and it has to be completely dry. Now we can put our 9 foot patio umbrella up without worrying about a gust of wind. We are careful not to leave it up when not in use.
