Lightweight, seems strong enough to hold the intended camping gear.
Lightweight, seems strong enough to hold the intended camping gear. Assembly is relatively simple but I do have a few recommendations. Assemble the corners and their tubes first, then mark the screw locations with a scratch awl, pick or nail. Disassemble and drill the center of the areas you've marked with a 1/16" drill bit. This will make inserting the screws much easier. The black under support bars are not aluminum, neither of mine had a full coat of paint... so a couple of coats of black spray paint is highly recommended. Hardware included is mostly non-magnetic... hopefully this will turn out to be stainless or at least no rust. Overall, it's made of very lightweight materials, so don't plan on carrying a cooler full of and adult beverages up there. At this price point... everything else is made of rust prone steel.

Easier to assemble than it sounds.
4 stars due to instructions being awful. However, without the instructions it was still pretty easy to put together. Things only work ONE way. Had no use for the supplied cross bars so that's a step I left out (now. Thinking I could have used that for a bit more reinforcement on the bottom). Anyway, with it all put together it feels sturdy. Had to modify a bit to make it work with my roof bars (drill new holes for cross members and had to buy hardware to clamp to my bars). Haven't installed yet. But definitely feels sturdy and very light weight!

good value
like everyone else has said directions are not very good. Also the parts are not marked or identified. I ended up taking it apart a couple of times to get it right. Thanks to everyone else I did get the inserts in so no problem there but the two black plastic side pieces require you to make sure the holes are in the correct location. When it is put together is is pretty nice and I cant detect any additional wind noise (my car is a 2016 Jeep patriot so it is not very aerodynamic anyway). It is light weight and made of aluminum so it wont rust. drove it for 2000 miles round trip without problems. Cross rails are included and not of the best quality but they work ok and come off pretty easy for storage. I cut up a bicycle inner tube and use the rubber sheets to protect my roof rails it worked fine.

Good basket for the $$, had to retrofit ...
As stated, a PITA to assemble. Lay out the parts, test fit them, before you screw them together.Make sure you have all the hardware, 2 of my M6*10 had NO head slots, had to replace those.Paying this forward w review ...Reading the previous reviews (& comments) was VERY helpful before & during assembly.Lots of knowledge there. For the price, a very good basket. I had to retrofit this, as it was going onto a Rhino Rack aftermarket system on my 2012 Honda CRV.Since I had NO rails (front to back of car) to clamp onto ...- I drilled the (basket) cross bar to accept Carriage bolts (head slotted into aero Rhino Rack cross bars, bolts thru the drilled basket cross bars).- Shortened the (basket) cross bars - hack saw would work, but I used a recip saw.- Then I realized the clamps for the basket cross bars were in the way.- I reversed the mounting brackets (turned upside down) to fit the cross bars onto the bottom of the basket (the clamps protrude slightly into the basket, oh well).- This seems to work, though the mounting brackets for the basket cross bars seem to be the weak link.- I'll ratchet strap the basket down to the car cross bars, just to be sure.- the basket will be stored when not in use, NOT a permanent mount on vehicle.- good basket for ~~ $65 (had to purchase some parts for retrofit), as opposed to $250 for another basket. Wanted aluminum for weight & rust resistance, rather than steel. This should do the job.- PICS to follow, once I get it all together.EDIT -- DONE & mounting brackets seem to be OK. Shortening the cross bars (again to fit inside bottom frame) worked, BUT would NOT accommodate the rubber ends (too thick). Duct Tape to the rescue!Fitting the (basket) cross bars into the metal frame of the basket seems to make the setup inherently STRONGER. The brackets simply hold the crossbars in place. The basket frame (not the basket cross bars) sits on top of the roof rack cross bars. Basket also sits (slightly) lower on top of the car.Getting anti-skid rubber, furniture pads to stick onto basket cross bars (at drilled holes, both sides) - eliminate the metal to metal when mounting the basket.NO carriage bolt connectors, using square U bolts thru the drilled (basket) crossbars, around the roof rack aero bars (sideways). Made 'boots' for U bolts from bike tire tube, no metal to metal. Test fitted, drove it & it works - NO movement. Ready for Vacation. (earned my MacGyver with this setup).BTW - Rear plastic corners - L = Driver's side, R = Passenger's side (in USA, reversed for UK, etc.).Interior measures 34.5" x 44" or approx. 10.5 sq. feet !!

It fits great on my car and is not as noisy as ...
One star off for the directions- they are awful so just look at the picture to put it together. It fits great on my car and is not as noisy as I would have thought. I coated mine with spray paint to keep the nuts and bolts from rusting. I used Rustoleum Hammer Finish to provide a durable finish that I can wash if it gets dirty. I have used it several times using both rope and bungee cords to hold down camping items and it has held up great.

Nice and looks well built...could use a better instruction booklet...
Like everyone's complaint, the instructions are so vague you'd rather just look at the picture and figure it out. If you do not have the patience, even if you are handy, then forget about this. I kind of figured this should have been a 30 mins to an hour assembly, but it went all the way 3 hours because I was so bewildered during the first 30 mins with the instructions. I then just decided to just look at the pictures. It's good that they did enumerate all the parts and how many there should be in the box, but this is no Ikea where they actually put "A" on the "A" part listed...the parts themselves are not labeled. It helps that the plastic parts where you insert the aluminum rods are actually shaped like the ends of the, uhm, well, aluminum rods. And for pete's sake, do not forget the steel squares!!! I wondered what those are for until I was about ready to put in the brackets. Turns out those are where you screw them. I had to dismantle the end part again just to insert those on the groves.Over-all, I am happy with how looked. The aluminum blended well with my car rack. It looks sturdy enough, but I think it says max is 150lbs. No biggie, I don't think I'd put that much anyway.

Nice looking lightweight cargo carrier
Pretty decent rack for the money, it's not the strongest cargo carrier out there but it's really lightweight and one of the better looking ones. It was definitely not easy to put together but if you take your time and think things though, it goes together fine. All of the plastic corner pieces are different, the fronts are obvious where they go, but the rears are only slightly different right to left. They have a R and L on the inside of them, if you put them backwards, holes for the 4 bottom inside runners wont line up and the rear will by 3/4" narrower than the front, so pay attention to the L and R. Another suggestion is to set the hardware out in groups and determine where they go before you start assembling it because what you get doesn't match exactly with what's in the instructions, but it's all there and they even gave me a couple extras. I pre-drilled the holes for the self taping screws to make screwing them in easier, not sure why this wasn't done at the factory, the location shouldn't change very much from product to product, but I guess that saves me a couple bucks so I wont complain.

Good value
Excellent value. Especially as it includes the cross pieces to mount to your car's roof rails. I would recommend getting some Styrene Butadiene Rubber sheet to eliminate any possible movement at the metal to metal contact points between roof rails and supplied mounts. Used it on a 200 mile trip to move daughter to college. Had no issues at all.
